[He definitely doesn't notice, lacking in observance as well as being too distracted by everything else to see that the Naga's coils are around him now. Not that he's got the power (or willpower) to try and stop him anyway. He's also being distracted by a completely new thing: that smell. At first it's just overly sweet with the hints of rosemary and the like...but then that sweetness becomes cloying, and Karamatsu's stomach turns in such a violent way that he almost fumbles his grip on the book. He hadn't been paying the drink much attention, but now it's so near to him that he can't help but notice it...
And it isn't until Rohan starts speaking again that it hits him just exactly what that smell is. A smell you catch from unfortunate roadkill when you're walking down the street and have to hurry to get past.
